Welcome post
Welcome to Third Term!
Starting the new term, I analysed my work for the previous term again. And I want to continue working on my weaknesses in the third term to make progress.
I plan to develop my ideas more and try more different options using sketches and notes. I also want to try to explain my ideas better. In addition, I plan to try to manage my time better and work more steadily, as this will help me leave enough time for each stage of the project and, as a result, improve the quality of my work.
I would also like to improve my understanding of style in projects. I realised that the function plays a key role in the project but it is also very important for me to study the style (materials, shape, colour) that will be well perceived by other people. I often focus on my perception of buildings and spaces to understand how comfortable and visually attractive they are but I think it is not enough. This term I want to understand better what decisions should be used to achieve this and learn how to apply it in my projects.
I plan to continue studying the Revit programme, which I started during the holidays. Also during the holidays I visited the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. This place has a lot of incredible works and although I visited it twice, there are many works left that I could not manage to look properly. In this gallery are works from approximately the 14th century to nowadays. I was really interested to observe how art styles changed during this time. I noticed that paintings in the 14th-15th centuries usually tell historical events or depict religious themes and authors usually focus on the details of the story. From the 16th to approximately the 19th century I noticed that artists tend to create more and more realistic drawings, making an accent on the proportions, shadows, reflections. Their works often convey people’s emotions and feelings. I discovered that more contemporary art works are focused on the symbolism and conveying of the meaning of the picture than on realism like earlier. Probably due to the appearance of the camera, realism became less popular and artists started to create more unusual and deeper pictures that make one think longer.

This term I am mostly looking forward to moments when I discover and understand something new that I can apply to my projects.
Initial Ideas

Add some images to the first half of the post showing what you saw at the Walker Museum - this is a fantastic gallery with a wide range of work, would like to know more of your opinion on it.
ReplyDeletePlease add commentary to your initial ideas sketches, good to see them on here, but you need to explain your first thoughts on your brief and on the drawings you made here.
