Practical Research: Site Plan
Final Outcome
Site Map Research
Before I started creating my site plan I looked at some examples. I selected two examples that best suit my project. Both these examples made in a monochrome palette, which I find very effective. In the first image the site is presented with zoomed-in circular view. I want to apply this technique in my own work to improve the clarity of the site.
On the second image, the location is highlighted in yellow. This site is also indicated on the smaller political map in the upper right corner. I plan to use the idea of mapping the site at different scales by combining a large-scale urban view with smaller political map to show the location clearly.
Process
I started with a base map containing minimal text.
After that, I added the names of the main streets in this area.
Then I highlighted the location in a muted red on the urban view.
After that, I added a smaller political map of the Odessa region and indicated the project location.
To ensure the building was placed with the correct proportions, I drew a line matching the length of one of the building’s walls.
Then I imported a top-view screenshot of my SketchUp model (taken in parallel projection with a transparent background). I reduce the opacity of both the building and map layers to see how correctly apply layers on top of each other. Then I changed the scale of the building so that the wall length matched the reference line on the map.
After that, I traced the street lines, indicated a cliff, added a road from the main streets to the building and parking from the side.
After that I drew the trees using a texture brush.
In the end, I created a map legend for clarity.
