Final sketch
Based on my last research, I developed the concept and the design of the project and made the final sketch. I drew this sketch in Procreate program and it includes a sketch of the exterior, interior and 3D scheme.
Concept
The main idea of the project is to create an architectural space inside the city using sensory elements such as sound, scent and visual impression through nature, lighting and materials. The goal of the project is to create a pavilion with a natural microclimate inside the city that can be visited at any time of the year and day. The target market is people who are overloaded with work, study, home routine, digital technologies or urban bustle. Also, this place can be visited by people who work remotely or those who are looking for a calm and safe place with nature.
The project is called Terra Within, which has two meanings: plants and using natural earthen materials inside the building and the object with natural microclimate inside the dense development of the city.
The project includes two main buildings, upright and inverted pyramids. I chose this shape to create two spaces: in an upright pyramid is created the effect of a cave, in an inverted pyramid is created the effect of a gorge. The effect is created not by copying the natural environment, but by using the elements of the cave and the gorge (shape and texture). Plants and piles trees are integrated in both buildings, which give the scent and create a shadow from the daylight. The upright pyramid has a small pond, a large window with view on the river, the second level around the perimeter of the building and a glass opening in the wall that gives additional light. UV-B panels are built into the glass roof of the inverted pyramid, which help visitors get vitamin D. Also in the inverted pyramid there are ramp ways between the trees and they rise up. They are accessible to all people, including people with limited mobility. Climbing panels are also integrated into the walls of the inverted pyramid, they are safe and suitable for beginner and intermediate levels. The back wall of the inverted pyramid is translucent and the trees on the street are visible through it. This creates the effect of extending the forest. 3D scheme shows the room between the two pyramids with an entrance to the lobby (and from the lobby two entrances to the spaces), toilets and an elevator to the second floor. The second floor between the pyramids has translucent walls and is located at the same level as the second level in upright pyramid and one ramp way in the inverted pyramid. And there are entrances to them. There's also a small cafe here.
In addition, this project can sometimes provide creative master classes or, for example, stretching. In the evening, the buildings can be illuminated inside with the festoon lights.
