This is the final sketch of my Major Project (eco-house near the ocean) which includes two types of buildings (standard type and an accessible version for people with disabilities or for big families).
Location: The building project is focussed on tourists, but also suitable for local people. The buildings will be located on the island of Nauru, where the climate is hot and there are problems with electricity and water supply, so I added solar panels on the roof and a way to collect rainwater through the hole in the roof (I showed it on the sketch). I also added a way to desalise salt water from the ocean.
Materials: I want to use natural materials, so I am planning to make the roof from bamboo, and the walls from rammed earth and reconstituted coral stone. Since it will be a complex of buildings, I want each building to look a little different, so some buildings will be made of rammed earth and others will be made of reconstituted coral stone painted in natural colour pigments (I listed them in the sketch), which is traditional for local culture.
Floor plans: all buildings have two floors. On the first floor there is a bathroom and a kitchen with a place to relax. On the second floor there is a bedroom and an exit to the terrace (which overlooks the ocean). Buildings of the second type (for people with disabilities or for a big families) are characterised by the presence of a second bedroom on the first floor, where there is a separate entrance with a ramp. Since the climate is hot, the building has only two windows on the first floor (a small one in the bathroom and a large one in the living room under the terrace in the shade) Natural light enters through the solar tube in the roof that passes through the whole house. Natural ventilation is in the openings under the roof (and under the terrace in houses with an additional bedroom).

The Site Plan sketch is quite interesting. Can you show 'views' from plan view?
ReplyDeletefirst then-> 3D. I think its about an efficient way to show it to others.
You could draw an arrow onto the existing site plan here [- but would need to show in plan too where the window was.]
Elena, a post like this should include a detailed discussion of your design idea. I have no idea what you are planning to make from this post. Please add commentary to this post and make it clear what your final design idea is. You should ahve settled on your final design idea by now. In Week 7 & 8 you will be working on the following outcomes:
ReplyDeleteFinal Concept sketches for your portfolio design boards
Final Elevations for your portfolio design boards
Final Site Map for your portfolio design boards
